I just had a mental image of Joe Lieberman getting his butt kicked in the election and whining afterward, "What about the farewell drugs?!"Robert Paulsenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15208594652127037486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5135408331348381055.post-50083698978729718782010-07-01T19:32:50.773-07:002010-07-01T19:32:50.773-07:00You had me at "Fascist." I've read the Cybersecurity Bill and according to it anything estimated a threat to national security can be a reason for a national shutdown. But then the Bill does not specify the exact security threats. Personally, I think it has something to do with the exchange of classified information; you know, the Julian Assange/Wikileaks case.

But then I'm also wondering if the shutdown of the entire internet will require a bigger "threat", as the Bill also says anyone with connection to the internet can be disconnected if identified as a security threat. So, if that goes for computer-to-computer information exchange, for example, then - indeed - what could be a reason for shutting down the entire internet? Kinda drastic if you ask me.

And what really concerns me is that the Bill also says US government will take steps to "spread the gospel", lol, to put it ironically in Mohamed ElBaradei's words. If the US can get its allies to take the same kind of measurements, we could soon be suffering from global censorship. That's just nuts.

And thanks for the compliment. I think 9/11 is very important in terms of recent history/politics. It's one of the major events in recent history that could prove government corrupcy - and if properly proven, could unchain a revolution. Who knows, we might be on our way to a better world. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5135408331348381055.post-37188847557702144112010-06-25T14:04:12.937-07:002010-06-25T14:04:12.937-07:00P.S. We didn't need an internet shutdown on 9/11, so what apocalyptic vision does Lieberman envision that would justify this? The thought makes me shudder.Robert Paulsenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15208594652127037486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5135408331348381055.post-41026889525312092092010-06-25T12:42:55.404-07:002010-06-25T12:42:55.404-07:00Being Dutch, I am not as involved in American poli...Being Dutch, I am not as involved in American politics as you, but from what I know I have to say I definitely agree with you.

Statements like Lieberman's only confuse the people, and perhaps makes them feel good about something that isn't at all good to begin with. Something not uncommon in politics nowadays.

Anyway, it's definitely deserving of a blog post. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
